May 22, 2018
The Hejen Racing Committee and Qatar Shell signed on Thursday a 3 year agreement under which Shell continues its official sponsorship for His Highness The Emir’s main race amongst tribes from 2019 to 2021.

H.H. The Emir’s Main Race is the final race of the camel racing festival taking place in the Al-Shahaniya Camel Race Track this year from 14 April to 25 April. The agreement was signed by the Vice-Chairman of the Camel Racing Committee, Mr. Abdullah Al-Kuwari, and Shell’s Deputy General Manager, Mr. Rashid Al-Sulaiti.
The main race amongst tribes is the top annual camel race in Qatar, and the competition attracts hundreds of trainers from around the Gulf. The winner receives a prize, but more importantly, the sword from His Highness The Emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani. Some 6000 camels from Qatar and elsewhere in the Gulf are expected to compete in the festival with races run over distances of 4, 6 and 8 kilometres.
Mr. Abdullah Al-Kuwari said: “We are delighted that Shell is signing for another three years to continue its sponsorship of His Highness The Emir’s main race amongst tribes. Shell’s support in promoting this event over the last 6 years has attracted a wider audience and proven to be beneficial to the sport. We take great pride in the cultural sport of Camel Racing, and I look forward to witnessing some exciting races this year.”
Shell’s Deputy General Manager, Mr. Rashid Al-Sulaiti: “Qatar Shell is proud to be able to continue supporting the Hejen Racing Committee by sponsoring His Highness The Emir’s main race amongst tribes. We are honored to partner once again with the Hejen Racing Committee in realizing the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030 in the preservation of Qatar’s national heritage and the encouragement of sporting culture through Camel Racing.”
