Qatar Shell continues to support The Hejen Racing Committee by sponsoring His Highness The Emir’s Main Race taking place in the Al-Shahaniya Camel Race Track from the 28th of February until the 11th of March 2016. The winner of the festival’s main race will receive a silver sword from His Highness The Emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani.
“We are pleased by the support Shell has shown to the Camel Racing Committee over the past 8 years in sponsoring and supporting His Highness The Emir’s main race,” said Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Faisal Al-Thani, The President of the Camel Racing Committee. “I am happy to see that Shell encourages a traditional sport such as camel racing that has been part of the Qatari culture and traditions for many years.”
The main race amongst tribes is the top annual camel race in Qatar, and the competition attracts a large turnout of participants from all over the Gulf region. The winner receives a prize, but more importantly, the sword from His Highness The Emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani. Some 12000 camels from Qatar and elsewhere in the Gulf are expected to compete in the festival; the distances of the races vary from 6, 8 and 10 kilometres.
Shell’s Government and Public Relations Manager, Sultan Al-Naimi added: “Qatar Shell is proud to be able to continue supporting the Hejen Racing Committee by sponsoring His Highness The Emir’s main race amongst tribes.
