Qatar University students tour Pearl GTL, the world’s largest Gas-To-liquids energy project

Qatar Shell leaders welcomed the students and gave them a comprehensive overview of Pearl GTL, the world’s largest GTL plant, delivered by QatarEnergy and Qatar Shell, which cements Qatar’s position as the GTL capital of the world.

The students were taken on a tour of Pearl GTL where among numerous innovations, Shell’s site engineers particularly showcased the plant’s record-breaking safety performance, highlighting that this was achievable owing to QatarEnergy and Qatar Shell’s commitment to the highest standards of Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) management.

Maha Al-Mannai, Qatar Shell’s University Collaboration Manager said, “QSRTC supports the development of Qatari talent by sharing with them our innovation and technical expertise to enrich their academic and professional experience.”

“We work closely with Qatar University to expand the country’s research capacity and part of this effort is our dedication to helping young professionals discover the many rewarding career possibilities that are available to them in a field that is critical to Qatar’s vision of a knowledge-based economy,” added Al-Mannai.

Dr Rashid Al Ammari, QU Dean of the College of Engineering said, “This is a wonderful learning opportunity for our students as it allows them to gain first-hand understanding of the world class Pearl GTL plant and engage with experts in the field. As future engineers, they were afforded crucial insight into the safety standards, quality processes and daily operations at QatarEnergy and Qatar Shell and will benefit considerably from the experience”.

In 2013, Qatar University (QU) and QSRTC signed a Memorandum of Understanding that consolidated their numerous collaborations, in which QSRTC sponsors and supports the educational programmes on offer at QU and shares its industrial and technical knowledge with QU faculty and students. The agreement also facilitates greater collaboration through expert lectures, internships, competitions, awards and the recruitment of QU students.

QSRTC, the anchor tenant of the Qatar Science & Technology Park, has played a pivotal role in shaping the future of research and development in Qatar through ground-breaking studies and thought-leadership. Its research provides innovative solutions to energy and environment challenges, faced by Qatar and the world.

To support Qatar on its journey towards a knowledge-based economy, QSRTC continuously strives to foster collaborations with academic institutions, in order to share its industrial and technical knowledge, tap into local Qatari research talent and enhance the nation’s scientific capabilities. It also seeks to link scientists with academic experts and students by facilitating partnerships that cultivate innovation and advance Qatar’s priorities.
