Qatargas 4
Qatargas 4 is Shell’s first entry into Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector and brings to seven the number of countries where Shell participates in LNG supply projects. A single LNG train is set to yield approximately 7.8 million tonnes per annum of LNG.
Despite being built in a challenging construction environment, progress at the project is so far in line with our expectations at the time of the investment decision.
The majority of the onshore and offshore facilities for Qatargas 4 are being developed jointly with Qatargas 3 (a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum, ConocoPhillips and Mitsui development) through a single Joint Asset Development Team.
With solid progress in both the offshore and onshore elements, Qatargas 4 is on track for start-up around the end of the decade. The construction of eight dedicated LNG carriers is well underway at SHI and DSME yards in South Korea for the owner Qatar Gas Transport Company Ltd. (known as “Nakilat”, which means carriers in Arabic). Qatargas 4 has entered into long-term charter agreement with Nakilat for those eight vessels.
