Qatar Shell is also a proud sponsor of the Qatar Museums Authority’s cultural activities, such as Qatar-UK 2013 and Qatar Brazil 2014. It’s an annual initiative by the Qatar Museums Authority, which aims to forge new partnerships between Qatar and the world through cultural exchanges in sport, community and culture.
Supporting Culture and Traditions
Maintaining and celebrating Qatar’s traditional and cultural values is important for Shell as an active participant in Qatar’s future. We are proud to support such diverse traditional interests as Islamic scientific exhibitions, Qatar-UK 2013 and Qatar Brazil 2014, The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) and Camel Racing.
Qatar Museums Authority, Qatar Shell and Britain’s Royal Society worked together to bring two standout exhibitions to Qatar at the end of 2012: 1001 Inventions and Arabick Roots. The exhibitions, held at Doha’s Museum of Islamic Art, were created to celebrate the scientific and cultural achievements of Muslim civilisation from 7th to 17th century.
The exhibitions, which attracted 72,000, were opened to the public in October 2012 by Her Excellency Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museum Authority.
Qatar Shell has been a proud to be the sole sponsor of the Model United Nations, for ten consecutive Years, in Qatar. The yearly programme is a partnership between Qatar Academy, Qatar Foundation and the THIMUN Foundation. The programme aims to develop leadership skills in high-school students from Qatar, the Middle East and around the world through discussions, debates and negotiations to solve the world’s real and pressing problems.
Camel Racing is a hugely popular sport with a long tradition in Qatar. Shell is proud to be the official sponsor of His Highness the Emir’s Main Race Amongst Tribes, the highlight of the camel racing calendar. It is our hope that our sponsorship support will help strengthen and preserve this dynamic spectacle.
